Caution: If you’re having your meal in front of your laptop or pc now, please leave this site immediately. What you’re going to see may cause you to throw up.

I signed up with this makeup artist (which happens to be MH's neighbors in KL )last month without going though a trial makeup because I thought I don’t have chance to do so. Thanks to the impromptu trip back KL last weekend, by sneer chance I had the trial makeup and it was FREAKING

UGLY!!! The glittering side (right) is the night makeup for dinner and the left side is for the day makeup. The photos above were taken after more than 1 hour of makeup (she was just damn slow!!!). I walked back to MH’s house, calmed myself down enough to take these photos, debugged on it and armed with some makeup photos which I tore down from magazine; I went back to the makeup artist’s house. I explained that the left eyebrow was too archy & too long, the eye colors were too widely spread, etc, etc. She offered to re-do the day makeup so I asked for a different eye color this time. After another eternity, the makeup came out to be equally bad! Subsequently, I asked her to reduce the thickness of the coloring; confine it to the lower eyelid only but she reasoned that it will be less obvious once I put on the fake eyelashes. Eventually we tried that on and when I saw it I was just totally speechless. It was ah kua + monster + clown all in one!!! I didn’t snap any photo here. Don’t want you all to get nightmare after seeing it like what I had.

I’m having cold feet already!!!

Gals, please help me.
Question 1: What’s wrong with the makeup?

Question 2: Should I buy her reasoning that the makeup might looks thick in real, but will be very mild under the ballroom light & camera flash? Should I really risk it???

Question 3: If it turned out equally bad on the wedding day itself, should I
(a)Run away
(b)Go wash out the entire makeup and make an entrance sans makeup
(c)Let ppl see the ugliest me in my entire life :..( :..( :..(

Question 4: Did I over react? Is the makeup fine after all?

Question 5: I’m planning to buy the eye colors, lipsticks, etc myself. Hers is just way too old fashioned. Any shop/brand/color to recommend?

Question 6: Should I insist on no fake eyelashes and liquid eyeliner? Both if done correctly, will look very very nice but I really doubt she can do it right. It's a huge risk as it will potentially make me look like ah kua if done wrongly.

Question 7: Should I insist on natural/nude makeup? Will I look really pale under harsh lighting?

Btw, if you see this ugly monster when you're attending our wedding dinner, don't worry, you're at the correct dinner. :p

Hui, to be frank, I don't like the make up at all. The green eyeshadow looks so fake n horrib! Its so so different from your wedding one. I think the best is to change to another make up artist ehh.. that is the most secure plan! :)

chung, i wish i could. :(
but i don't have the contact to a better makeup artist in KL.

ppl just tell me i heard this and this is okay, or my fren's fren makeup artist is okay..blah, blah, blah. but it's also a huge risk. no sample, no guarantee, no trial.

I have to agree with Hui (no offense). I think

1. squeeze out the time for a trial with her and try n try n try until u r satisifed
2. get a new artist (strongly support this one!). maybe any walk-in at any bridal shop in KL will be better?
3. I think nude/natural will suit u better, in fact it suits almost everyone - will make u look natural yet classy and elegant at the same time

All the best!

Agree. It looked like makeup from the 80s though. If you decided to stick with her, maybe just sit & pray? God may do wonders on her hands that day.

yeah, karen... but then my mum's wedding day makeup also not as disgusting as that woo... :(

u have to run away.

Ur mom wedding should be in 70s gua. I think fashion disaster started in 80s.

Hui,
Frankly, it is horrible. How about ask Sumi about her make-up artist?
I think Teik Beng's wife also not bad. :)

1. Buy your own eyeshadow color and let her work on it.

2. Walk in to any bridal shop and try. I think those at bridal shop will do it better having more customers, and thus more experience.

I'll go for No. 2.

and actually she is right, with the spotlight at night, you cant go for too light colors. it'll look v. pale. But try others and see how first.

good luck...

Thanks everyone for the advice. Thanks Karen & Stace for the contact of other makeup artist. Finally, I've signed up with Stace's very experienced makeup artist. Yipeee... :)

See you gals back home in a few more days.
